About this book
Chang Sun-young graduated from Ewha Womans University and worked in the administration office of her alma mater for 10 years until her family moved to the United States where her husband had been sent by his company. She and her husband then moved to Indonesia and, after several years, to the Philippines. She returned to Korea in 1983 and now lives in Kihung, a village near Seoul.

During her prolonged residence abroad, cooking became her favorite pastime, especially in Indonesia and the Philippines, where she greatly missed her two sons who were attending school in the United States and lived in expectation of their visits during school vacations. She experimented with all kinds of recipes to treat her family and friends.

Her sons married Koreans, both daughters of high school classmates, and set up homes in San Francisco. At the request of her daughters-in-law, she began to write recipes of family favorites for them. Soon, the recipes and tips for easy cooking faxed across the Pacific piled up enough to make a book. Ms. Chang became a celebrity when the first Korean edition of this cookbook, which was published under the title A Cookbook for My Daughters-In-Law (Myonuri ege chunun yori chaek), appeared in bookstores and became a runaway best seller. She has her own cooking show on the Hyundai cable TV channel and writes a weekly column, "Housewife Chang Sun-young' s Menu of the Week" in The Hankook Ilbo, a leading daily newspaper.
